Hill Street Veterinary Hospital

Here's what our patients have to say about their experiences at Hill Street Veterinary Hospital.

I have been a client of Hill Street Veterinary Hospital for quite a few years now and my dogs, cats and I are always treated with respect and compassion. I really like the convenience of the walk-in hours they offer between 9 and 11 a.m.; because of my working second shift, this makes it much easier to fit in my schedule.

I have 6 chihuahuas and 3 cats and I wouldn't trust them to any other vet office. They're always handled with the utmost care. I find the entire staff from the vet techs to the vets to be some of the most professional, knowledgable caring people I've ever met. I've always trusted them to
give my pets the best care possible. I can always count on them for check-ups, surgery or just some helpful friendly advice over the phone. They always make my ‘kids’ and I feel a lot better!”

The veterinarians at Hill Street Veterinary Hospital have cared for my animals, large and small, for 40 years. I have been more than happy with their services. It is easy to get in when your animals need attention. Over the years I have had some unusual cases for them.

Dr. Haun saved my one dog years ago when she had hemolytic anemia. The dog collapsed in arrest. I revived her and went straight in. Dr. Haun quickly diagnosed the problem as soon as he drew blood. My doctor friends said she would probably not survive, but Dr. Haun worked with her. She had a blood transfusion from one of my other dogs, and he worked for weeks, changing her doses and monitoring her blood work until she finally got better.

On other occasions, when a specialist was needed, I was always referred to very qualified specialists. I always feel my animals are in good hands. We always talk about the different ways each case could be handled and chose what we feel is best.

Dr. Hartenstein saved one of my horses with Potomac fever. They often don't survive, but Dr. Hartenstein made an early diagnosis. We gave IV antibiotics and the horse got better. I have had many unusual cases for them over the years, and I feel I have received the best care.

I also referred two of my friends to Hill Street when they were advised
elsewhere to put their dogs down. In both cases when the animals were evaluated at Hill Street, they were given a different diagnosis and the dogs lived long happy lives.”

Last year, my Great Pyrenees dog Lily was hit by a truck and had traumatic injuries to her back leg. I rushed the her to Hill Street Veterinary Hospital and was seen immediately. Dr. Haun was able to assess the situation quickly and, because the injury was so severe, he provided a referral to an orthopedic veterinary surgeon in Philadelphia who would be able to operate on her right away. Because Lily is such a large dog, she can be difficult to treat with standard veterinary equipment, but Dr. Haun was able to creatively assemble a
device that stabilized her leg for the long drive to the surgeon and prevented further trauma. Thanks to Dr. Haun's quick actions in treating Lily's injuries, the surgeon was able to save her leg.

Dr. Hartenstein has been taking care of my horses for over 30 years and has become a good friend to me and my animals. He has continuously delivered excellent care, and has always been available in the event of medical emergencies. What I really appreciate about George is his willingness to give me advice over the phone when an in-person visit isn't needed. His wealth of knowledge on all kinds of veterinary issues has been a valuable resource in keeping my animals healthy.”

Dr. Liz Valles was a great addition to the Hill Street team. Initially, I was thrilled for the extended hours that her addition provides. As my two Jack Russell Terriers rarely seem to have health issues during normal business hours, we got to know and like Dr. Valles rather quickly.

Dr. Valles is very knowledgeable and is excellent at explaining things in a manner which is easy to understand. When I had to administer shots to my one dog, she literally guided me through doing it with him the first time so that I was comfortable with providing the necessary care at home. What is clear is that she is an accomplished veterinarian with a heart for providing the best quality of care possible for the animals. I appreciate her directness when assessing a situation, and her ability clearly outline the treatment plan along with insights on available options.

I trust the advice and care Dr. Valles provides. This is true of the Doctors Hartenstein and Hahn, and the entire Hill Street team. For the past 10 years, Hill Street has cared for all my animals, including horses, dogs and cats. I value their services and feel fortunate to have such a quality care provider here in York, PA.”
